I study how energy availability and recovery shape the health and performance of endurance and master athletes — from field studies at the World Masters Athletics Championships to molecular and cellular models of muscle and metabolism. My current focus is low energy availability and RED-S in master and endurance athletes, including managing the LEAP study at Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln.
Research
Post-COVID recovery, menopausal symptoms, and injury in track & field master athletes, studied at the World Masters Athletics Championships.
Prevalence, risk, and physiological consequences of energy deficiency in endurance athletes — including management of the LEAP intervention study.
Time-efficient training such as exercise snacks and breaking up sitting, fitness assessment, and molecular responses to exercise.
